Assignment 30A Final Reflection

Image
Assignment 30A Final Reflection After reading through my posts from this semester I think the most formative experience  for me was having to think of of problems as opportunities.  When we were asked to compile a list of twenty things that "bugged" us.  I thought I would never come up with the list.  I found a couple of things easily and then I was stumped.  What this assignment did was fine tune my vision and perception about what was going on around me every day.  I have learned to identify simple problems and to look for solutions that would solve those problems.  The experience that I will remember forever is doing multiple elevator pitches with tattoo sleeves on.  My first elevator pitch took me forever because I would laugh, stutter, forget to take off sleeves...lots of bloopers!   My most joyous experience was watching all of the elevator pitches of the other students who submitted their pitches for Dr. Pryor's feedback....

Assignment 29A Venture Concept No. 2

Assignment 29A Venture Concept No. 2 Opportunity: Tattoo regret is a problem for many people in America. While regret is different among those individuals who have the problem (unwanted tattoos), customers would all have the desire or  need  to have it removed.  I have narrowed my market segment to women between the ages of 34-55 in Central Florida who wish to have their tattoos removed.  These individuals will have a higher disposable income and will likely be concerned with the way they look and be willing to spend money on cosmetic treatments to better their outward appearance.  The nature of the need can differ for potential customers.  Some women will simply want unwanted tattoos removed, where others will want a tattoo removed not because they do not like tattoos, but because they got a tattoo with something that now bothers them. ( of the percentage of those who regret their tattoos, the largest percentage is those who got a tattoo with the n...

Assignment 28A Your Exit Strategy

Assignment 28A Your Exit Strategy 1) Identify the exit strategy you plan to make. Do you intend to sell your business in the next 5 years for a large return? Do you intend to stay with the business for several decades and retire? Do you intend to protect the venture as a family business, and pass it down to your children? Based on what I have learned about my particular industry to date, I think my plan would be to grow the business for the next several years, build up a reputation in the local market, and add some additional services for creating revenue.  Considering what we have learned about business and product/service life cycles, I think I would be ready to exit my venture after I get it to the maturity stage and move on to a new venture. 2) Why have you selected this particular exit strategy? When I prepared Venture Concept 1 and thought about what was next for me, I thought perhaps maybe one or more of my children might consider going into business with me a...

Assignment 27A Reading Reflection No. 3

Assignment 27A Reading Reflection No. 3 How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big  Kind of the Story of My Life, author Scott Adams 1) What was the general theme or argument of the book? I believe the general theme of this book is about overcoming failure and how we, as human beings, should (although is difficult) invite failure in order to succeed. He claims that was not exceptional at any one thing but he was "pretty good" at a number of things. He also discusses how luck plays a role in success. He makes the assertion that acquiring a number of skills including psychology, basic accounting, public speaking, learning a second language, just to name a few, may create more opportunities for luck to happen and he includes that timing is also a form of luck.  Adams also says that for every skill one learns the odds of success doubles. With regard to success, he thinks an individual's energy has much to do with motivation and so health and fitness thus play ...

Assignment 26A Celebrating Failure

Assignment 26A Celebrating Failure 1) Tell us about a time this past semester that you failed -- whether in this class, or outside of this class. Don't spare any details! It'd be even better if there was something you tried several times this semester, and failed each time.  This semester here at UF I have had a HUGE technology learning curve.  Enrolling in online classes is something new to me and I am an extrovert (ENSJ) on the Meyers Briggs scale so I need to have people around more often than not.  Since starting in this program, I have been, at times, overwhelmed with "learning to learn" in a distance learning platform.  My first couple of assignments in this class when I submitted the wrong URL was devastating.  I lost all of the points associated with those posts.  Needless to say, I was heartbroken because I pride myself on my ability to follow directions and I failed to fully read the syllabus which clearly outlined the instructions and ho...

Assignment 25A What's Next?

Assignment 25A What's Next? What I Think Is Next:   Having completed my venture concept, I think establishing Inkless Canvas, etc as a reputable and professional laser tattoo removal boutique will be my first order of business.  Once I have the business running smoothly, I think it would make sense to add a line of skin care products to sell in my boutique.  I also thought about adding other ancillary services that could be done by a licensed esthetician. Perhaps scaling the boutique beyond one laser technician and additional support staff would also be in my growth plan. Existing Market:  Interview 1: I explained my Venture Concept to Christy and outlined the process.  She loved the idea. She liked that I would have a boutique. I asked her what she thought I should do that I am not planning to do? She was not sure what I meant so I asked her what services or products I should consider adding to my business?  She thought maybe lash extensions. I w...

Assignment 24A Venture Concept No. 1

Assignment 24A Venture Concept No. 1  Inkless Canvas, etc. Opportunity: Tattoo regret is a problem for many people in America.  According to recent statistics, some 56 percent of women have tattoos and of that percentage about 15 percent regret their tattoos and  an estimated 11 percent want to remove them. While regret is different among those individuals who have the problem ie: unwanted tattoos, my customers would all have the desire or need to have it removed.  Through multiple interviews, I have narrowed my market segment to women between the ages of 34-55 in Central Florida who wish to have their tattoos removed.  These individuals will have a higher disposable income and will likely be concerned with the way they look and be willing to spend money on cosmetic treatments to better their outward appearance.  The nature of the need can differ for potential customers.  Some women will simply want unwanted tattoos removed, where others will want...
